近日疑似中國軍工企業研製的電磁炮樣機正式上艦測試，從在網路引起熱烈討論的多張照片來看，一艘072型大型坦克登陸艦艦艏安裝一門白色的巨大炮塔，登陸艙則出現類似集裝箱的設備。據了解，解放軍已為055型導彈驅逐艦預留改裝潛力，一旦電磁炮系統成熟，「萬噸大驅」將會裝備這款具有劃時代意義的武器系統。
一名中國海軍退役人士指出，照片中舷號936的072型玉亭級坦克登陸艦「海洋山號」，應該正在測試中國在研的電磁炮系統，其艦艏的巨大艦炮實為樣機，未來服役時將進一步優化，而登陸艙中設備應為脈沖電源。
他同時透露，中國海軍其實早在2013年就開始正式立項研制電磁炮系統。從網友發布的圖片來看，072型登陸艦已經進行過試航測試。按照流程，解放軍或許已經完成電磁炮系統的地面測試。

至於這款被視為劃時代意義的武器系統，為何放棄909專職測試艦而選用072型登陸艦來做測試，這名退役人士則認為，909艦電站功率是固定的，難以改裝；而072登陸艦體積巨大，具備改裝潛力。公開資料顯示，此次做為測試艦的072型登陸艦「海洋山號」於1996年服役，滿載排水量4800噸。
但也有軍迷認為，此次流出的照片應是中國軍工企業利用軍艦測試新型艦炮，推測可能是傳聞已久的155毫米艦炮。目前中國海軍裝備的威力最強的艦炮是130毫米艦炮，新型052D導彈驅逐艦和已正式下水的055型導彈驅逐艦均裝備該型艦炮。

事實上，中國近年能在電磁炮領域能有快速進展，當然不得不歸功於中國海軍電力工程專家馬偉明。他早在去年春節期間《央視》播出的「2016年度科技盛典」節目中，就曾提及「電磁能技術取代化學能技術」的概念，當時外界認為，他的表態可能已暗示中國除突破電磁彈射技術外，在高能電磁技術研究領域，已經取得了全面突破，未來10年內中國火炮也可能由傳統化學能火炮全面進入「電磁炮時代」。
目前全球來說，在電磁炮領域僅有美國與中國正在推進研制工作，美國方面過去曾進行過多次地面測試，但始終沒有傳出電磁炮上艦測試的消息。若此次中國的電磁炮樣機上艦測試消息一旦被證實，這將意味著，該國很可能在電磁炮系統研發進度超越美國。
